History of the world via its technologies up to 1492 Essay
History of the world by means of its advances up to 1492 - Essay Example Among the most mechanically propelled human advancements in the written history is the Ice Age Civilization. ââ¬Å"The Jomon individuals â⬠¦ get by as the Ainu of Hokkaido and northern Honshu, the northeasternmost Japanese islands. They were dislodged by Yayoi intruders from Korea around 400 BCâ⬠(Smith, n.d.). Compartments from the Jomon stoneware happen to be the most established known holders. Turkish were the most seasoned in Africa, Asia and Europe going back to just about 10500 years. Utilizing the water-tight Jomon compartments, individuals thought that it was anything but difficult to heat up their food to dispose of germs and steam it. This made it feasible for the Jomon Ice Age Civilization to advance and broaden their eating regimen with increasingly nutritious and sterile food including shellfish and steamed vegetables with enormous green leaves. They knew about the beneficial outcomes of heating up the food on its cleanliness and in this manner, individuals of the Jomon Ice Age Civilization bubbled such nourishments like oak seeds to diminish their poisonousness. Heating up the food likewise made it sufficiently delicate to be taken care of to toothless newborn children and elderly individuals. Chasing and assembling permitted the individuals of the Jomon Ice Age Civilization to harp inside and on the edges of their own towns without developing the harvests. They didn't have metallic devices for weaving or composing and the political texture of their way of life was powerless, yet it had little effect to them as they carried on an extremely upbeat and satisfying existence without these things throughout their life. From the pictures and bits of craftsmanship having a place with the time of Ice Age, it very well may be derived that the Ice Age Civilization may have been significantly more progressed in the sociologic al qualities when contrasted with all civic establishments that have succeeded them until the current age. This can be evaluated from the way that the current human progress has quite recently begun to see the manner in which quantum PCs work, the truth levels connected with the Many-Worlds quantum hypothesis. The treatise composed by Theon of Alexandria in 390 is commonly taken as a noteworthy record of the subject in Middle Ages. Astrolabe was the PC of old occasions. The idea was

Exploring the Theme of Impossible Love Throughout Virgilââ¬â¢s The Aeneid and Ovidââ¬â¢s Metamorphoses - Literature Essay Samples
Throughout the ages, the theme of impossible love in literature has prevailed. Impossible love is an overall broad theme; generally speaking, it is a love that is forbidden, unrequired, or unable to flourish. Somewhere between 29 and 19 B.C. the legendary Roman author Virgil wrote his epic: The Aenid. The Aenid chronicles the journey of the great hero Aeneas, who falls in love with the queen of Carthage, Didoââ¬âresulting in a tragic spell of impossible love. Some years after Virgil, surfaced Ovid with his classic Metamorphoses which links a stunning array of mythological tales through the common theme of change or transformation. Many of the tales told by Ovid interact with the theme of impossible loveââ¬âbut especially the story of Pygmalion and his ivory maiden. The theme of impossible love is timeless because it is incredibly relatable, the heart wants what the heart wants, and therein negative consequences and drama forever ensue. In fourth book of The Aeneid, the theme of impossible love presents itself when Dido and Aeneas fall deeply in love. Initially, Dido does not want to marry Aeneas. Dido is busy being a strong and well-liked leader for her people, she is aware of his journey, and knows that in the future the Trojan descendants of Aeneas will ruin her beautiful city of Carthage. Loyal to both her people and her deceased husband, Dido is an admirable woman. From the very first moments of Didoââ¬â¢s infatuation with Aeneas, the poet foreshadows to the readers that her love will be her destruction. However, Juno, who openly detests Aeneas, convinces Dido to marry Aeneas to interfere with his quest. Junoââ¬â¢s devious plan to distract Aeneas works for a while. Aeneas is content with his lovely queen, until Jupiter hears of the union. Jupiter then dispatches Mercury to remind Aeneas of his duty, to found the great city of Rome. Aeneas is a slave to his duty, he must stick to the Roman Cardinal Values: prudentia, fortitudo, justicia, and temperanta. Though Aeneas does love Dido, he understands that the Gods through their divine intervention have called upon him, he has a grand and divine purpose, which he ultimately knew all alongââ¬âbut he was distracted by Didoââ¬â¢s impossible love. Before Aeneas arrived in Carthage, Dido was already a somewhat tragic character. She was a widowed woman in charge of a kingdom that will certainly be overthrown. As Aeneas tells Dido he must resume his journey, Dido becomes a lovesick wreck: So Dido pleads and so her desolate sister takes him the tale of tears again and again. But no tears move Aeneas now. He is deaf to all appeals. He wonââ¬â¢t relent. The Fates bar the way. and heaven blocks his gentle, human ears. (Virgil 142-143, lines 549-554) After being pressured by Jupiter to complete his quest, Aeneas can no longer sympathize with Dido; he knows he no longer has time for his love. The strong and intelligent queen cannot bear to lose another husband and therefore throws herself upon a blade as Aeneas sails on. Even for a work of fiction, Didoââ¬â¢s sudden irrationality and act of suicide is puzzling. According to Mike McCool author of the article, ââ¬Å"The Tragedy of Dido: An Unresolved Epistemological Crisisâ⬠Dido was, ââ¬Å"drawn irresistibly into the world of intrigue between Gods and men.â⬠(McCool). Dido was used as a tool for Junoââ¬â¢s plan to distract Aeneas; their love was not natural for it was formed through the Gods, Cupidââ¬â¢s poison specifically. Unlike many others, especially most characters in Ovidââ¬â¢s Metamorphoses, Dido did not openly defy the Gods or do anything to spite them, resulting in Dido and Aeneasââ¬â¢ relationship being one of the most tragic and impossible in all literature. In Ovidââ¬â¢s Metamorphoses, the sculptor Pygmalion manufactures his own impossible love. Displeased by the imperfections of real earthly women, Pygmalion decides to fashion his own vision of a perfect woman out of ivory. Pygmalion falls madly in love with his ivory maiden, he kisses her, caresses her, dresses her, and even speaks to her. But, it is obviously impossible to love and marry an ivory statue. His ivory maiden is not a real human, and therefore does not exist in real life, yet she still exists in the realm of art. His beloved statue is, ââ¬Å"white as snow,â⬠(Ovid 394, line 49), and it is very interesting that Ovid picked ivory instead of marble for Pygmalionââ¬â¢s medium, signifying that his maiden is pureââ¬âa perfect image of feminine beauty. In a sense, Pygmalion began to live inside his own head, when he touched the statue he thought to himself, ââ¬Å"flesh or ivory? No, it couldnââ¬â¢t be ivory now!â⬠(255). Pygmalion wished so badly for his inanimate love to stir, so he prayed to the Gods to marry a woman like his statue. Luckily for Pygmalion, Venus heard his prayers, and knew that he really wanted his statue to live so he could marry it, and so she turned his impossible love into a reality. When Pygmalion returned home he went to his statue and, ââ¬Å"fondled that longed-for body again and/ again.â⬠(286-287). Pygmalionââ¬â¢s unattainable woman is now standing before him, as a real human. Jane Oââ¬â¢Sullivan author of the scholarly article, ââ¬Å"Virtual Metamorphoses: Cosmetic and Cybernetic Revisions of Pygmalionââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËLiving Dollââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ argues that, ââ¬Å"here fetishism is taken to be a process by which a concurrently feared and desired objectââ¬âin this case, a womanââ¬ârefashioned to conform to idealized notions of femininity in a bid to render her a compliant and familiar substitute for that unruly object and, in so doing, to tame her.â⬠(Oââ¬â¢Sullivan 134). Tak ing Oââ¬â¢Sullivanââ¬â¢s argument into context, she is saying that Pygmalion was afraid of women, and of their rejection, so to hide his resentment for women, he created his own perfect woman, who would not talk back to him, displease him, or reject him. What was once a fetishized and quite frankly, unsettling, love is now a thing of reality. Pygmalionââ¬â¢s maiden is a real living human being. Though the tension of impossible love is relieved in terms of Pygmalion, it is now present regarding his ivory maiden. In Metamorphoses, Pygmalionââ¬â¢s statue is not given a name, she is completely Pygmalionââ¬â¢s possession, she is not her own person, and she belongs to him. Thanks to Venus, now that the statue is a real woman she has absolutely no free will, she is forever indebted to Pygmalion and essentially turned into his own personal sex slave. She is unable to make her own decisions and is overall unable to choose whom she is able to love, which leads to another layer of unrequited, and impossible love. In both Virgilââ¬â¢s The Aeneid and Ovidââ¬â¢s Metamorphoses, the theme of impossible love dominates the plots of the stories and essentially terrorizes the characters affected. In The Aeneid, both Dido and Aeneas are forever changed by their brief relation, Dido gave up her life for the man that she loved and Aeneas had to live with the regret of knowing that he caused his belovedââ¬â¢s suicide due to the fact that he had to complete his God given duty. On the other hand, in Ovidââ¬â¢s Metamorphoses Pygmalionââ¬â¢s impossible love with his statue reaches a satisfying solutionâ⬠¦ for him, however his ivory maiden is forced into a life not of her choosing, therefore resulting in an unrequited and impossible love. Though it is tragic, impossible love will forever be a timeless staple of literature.

How to Write a Proposal For Research Paper or Term Paper
How to Write a Proposal For Research Paper or Term PaperThere are many who would claim that writing a proposal for research paper or term paper is one of the most important steps that they need to take in order to get their college degree. However, many would rather not write one because it's considered an expense and as long as it's timely, there shouldn't be much of a problem. However, there are times when that's not the case and students must learn how to write a proposal for research paper/term paper. Just keep reading for the answers to these questions and you should know what to do next. When it's time to write one, it's time to get started. You may want to use some research papers and term papers from other institutions to see what has worked for other students, as well as for your own. If you've never written one before, you'll want to start off by narrowing down the list to three or four ideas and make notes about them. Once you have that, it's time to plan out your thesis st atement and then how to do it.The paper can come in any form, including email, memos, and even correspondence. All you really need to know is what you think is the best way to get through it. The main idea here is to make it interesting and convey the information effectively. Sometimes it can be difficult to convince a school of your abilities and academic background, so you will want to work with a more senior professor to create a proposal that is convincing. Take a look at how this professor has done it and how well you can do it.Once you have the thesis statement down, make sure that you prepare an outline for the paper. Keep in mind that if you have enough time, it can be easier to write this than it is to write a term paper. Just write everything out, and if you have a topic and a set number of pages, that is what you should write on.At this point, you should just be working on the paper itself. While it's not necessary to have all of the information planned out, just have all of the topics laid out for you, and all of the content cut out if it's too long. If you know you will have a student advisor, it's best to address them directly when you're planning on writing the paper. Just make sure that the student who is taking the course knows you and they can work with you accordingly. The last thing you need to do is to write the proposal for research paper/term paper for the appropriate deadline. Many people assume that the deadline is the last day of classes, but that's not necessarily the case. In fact, you'll probably want to keep writing until the end of the semester, but if you're using an online college or university, you may need to extend that deadline. You don't want to give yourself a deadline unless you need to or if you have to, you can always post a reminder. It's all up to you in terms of how much time you can afford to put into the paper. As long as you follow these tips, you should have no trouble writing a research paper/term paper and even finishing it. Keep in mind that it doesn't have to be one hundred percent finished for you to submit it, though. You can give yourself another couple of weeks, after which you can send it out.

Growing Up Where, No One Looked Like Me, Gender, Race,...
In the article, Growing Up Where ââ¬Å"No One Looked Like Meâ⬠: Gender, Race, Hip Hop and Identity in Vancouver Canada, author Gillian Creese examines the dimensions of gender and racialization, this study exemplifies how African-Canadian men and women are constantly faced and conflicted with identity issues. The study conducted interviews with second generation African-Canadians, ages nineteen to thirties. Participants were asked to recall moments from their childhood, in particularly their adolescence, and describe how their peers, pop culture, and their African heritage affected their identity while growing up in predominately white spaces. Metro Vancouver is one of the most diverse areas in Canada, yet the study found that of the numerous immigrants who relocated there, Africanââ¬â¢s were the least present in the communities. They are typically one of the only of the African and Black children in their schools, their neighborhoods, and their larger peer groups, reflecting an urban space in which Black/African bodies stand out amidst the majority of European and Asian origins. At the same time, African-Canadian youth inhabit cultural spaces in which gendered representations of Blackness are ubiquitous, embedded in American popular culture through films, television, music, and news, and shaping interactions with others in the broader society (Creese). Gender roles are normality among any culture or background.
